Class Schedules

We used to print class schedules each semester, listing every course offered on every campus. Designing and laying these out multiple times per year was a painstaking and tedious process.

When we were about to pass this project along to our agency, I realized as I was writing up the instructions on how to handle the information for the designer at the agency that I was basically writing a computer program. Why not just automate this?

I learned basic Javascript and wrote an InDesign script that would apply styles based on the raw text information, taking what used to be a month long design process down to a three day turnaround time for the 88 page fall schedule, and saving agency hours in the process.
